Carpe Diem

As the year comes to an end, one takes stock of what happened (and did not happen) over the last twelve months. We all have different priorities, but there’s one thing nobody wants to feel: regret. Here are four things you can do to make the most of the last few days of 2011.

Reconnect.

Apart from the usual family reunions, organize one with your blockmates. The soundtrack? A playlist of famous songs during your freshman year.

Give back.

We usually save money to buy gifts for ourselves and our friends, but it may be easier than you think to share our blessings. There are coin drives for worthwhile causes everywhere—in school, in the train. Donate your day’s loose change on your way home.

Step away.

Take a break from the bustle of academia to, as cliché as it sounds, find yourself. Sign up for a retreat at the Campus Ministry Office or go on a tech-detox—turn off your phone and let yourself think.

Treat yourself.

Do that one thing that you’ve been putting off. Go out of town, sign up for an art class, print out copies of your favorite pictures. In short, make “someday” today.
