The Philippines has a lot of thriving workshops that cater to both young and seasoned writers. Each has its distinctive appeal, depending on what a writer is looking for.
Dumaguete National Writers Workshop
Founded in 1962 by National Artist for Literature Edith Tiempo and her late husband, Filipino writer Edilberto, it is a live-in workshop held every May.
University of the Philippines National Writers Workshop
Once a workshop for beginners, it now caters to mid-career writers—those who have either released a book or won a national award.
Ateneo National Writers Workshop
Spearheaded by the Ateneo Institute Literary Arts and Practices, it is held during the semestral break, with the goal of improving the craft of beginners.
UST National Writers Workshop
This workshop, also for beginners, is on its 10th year. The next workshop will be held earlier (sometime during the semestral break), says Dimalanta.
Iyas Creative Writing Workshop
First conducted in 2001, it is held in University of St. La Salle in Bacolod every summer. The workshop accepts works in English as well as different regional languages.
