Assessing the INAF

Some students speak their minds on the Loyola School’s Integrated Non-Academic Formation Program (INAF).

What is your perception of the INAF?

It’s good that we have these immersions because we get to help [communities]… but [such programs] opened my eyes to the problem that we need to solve the [poverty] in a long-term type of way, and not just by giving [the less fortunate] snacks and playing with them.

Vincent Tang, II BS HSc

I kind of look forward to it since [our specific program] isn’t as boring as the other courses’. The student facilitator and the [instructor] tried to integrate our course into it.

Janvic Garcia, II BFA ID

Do I need INAF? As a student, no. But as an Atenean, yes. As students, our only main concern is academics. [But] we are in the Ateneo where … it’s not just about academics and “us” anymore… [For instance,] the Junior Engagement Program (JEEP) reminded me that people of the labor force are also real people.

Denise Sales, IV AB Eco

I have nothing against doing social work. [However], the mandatory nature of the activities just ruined the entire experience of doing anything truly meaningful for the communities I visited… I felt like NSTP and JEEP just imposed a role for me and I had to do it “or else.”

Aussy Aportadera, IV AB Comm
