Coming back to (old) Manila

When one thinks of Old Manila, arbitrary things like Jose Rizal’s imprisonment, knock-off goods, and the need to have a bottle of pepper spray on hand pop into a naïve mind.

In the early nineties, Old Manila was a flourishing hub of commerce and entertainment; it was where folks could buy trinkets from China, participate in festivals, or feast on the latest food trends.

Lately, Old Manila has degenerated in popularity due to the sudden rise of shopping complexes and business districts in other cities. But after spending a day roaming around these street-peddler lined streets, one can witness how Old Manila transformed into a hodgepodge of sprawling financial institutions, unique specialty stores, friendly folks and serene sights.
