Blue Vote or No Vote

Through the years, it is a struggle to get Ateneans to vote in the Sanggunian General Elections.

Typically, the required quota (50% + 1), in order for the election to be called ‘valid’, is reached only late in the afternoon on the last day of elections. This is despite the fact that, as said in the 2010 Electoral Code, votes of seniors and super-seniors, while counted as valid votes, will not be counted in computing the quota.

The GUIDON looks into past election data and the number of students who have participated in Ateneo’s local elections.

Notes:

• Election data were taken from files sent by the Ateneo Commission on Elections. Certain pieces of data were unavailable from those sent, hence, data in particular fields were assumed from the either the Top 4 votes or the Presidential votes.

• The total constituency and the quota were derived from the enrolment data of the Office of the Registrar. Following the provisions of the 2010 Electoral Code, constituencies for the seniors and super-seniors were not included in the computation.
