MAJORITY OF the members of the Sanggunian Central Board (CB) voted in favor of the Nutrition Council Creation Act.

The act provides for an ad hoc committee called the “Nutrition Council” which will oversee the kind of food sold in the Ateneo.

The council will be composed of one representative from the following bodies: the Sanggunian, the Council of Organizations of the Ateneo, the Loyola Schools Health Services, the Food Quality Assurance Office, the Office of Administrative Services, the Health Sciences Program, the Environmental Science Department, the Human Resources Office and the Office of Student Activities.

“There have been complaints about the quality of food in the cafeteria,” said Sanggunian President Gio Alejo.

He also said that the council would set guidelines for the cleanliness of places where students eat.

The objectives of the creation of the council include the establishment of a school nutrition policy, support for nutritionally adequate food choices that are appealing to students and the promotion of the involvement of students and the school community in the student nutrition program.

Alejo clarified that besides the cafeteria, the council’s jurisdiction will cover the Ateneo Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AMPC), the JGSOM Student Enterprise Center (JSEC), eating places in the university dormitories and all other such places in the Loyola schools.

AJ Elicaño, School of Humanities senior CB representative, remarked that the rules set by the Nutrition Council should not be enforced abruptly in the future.

As of press time, only the approval of the creation of the council has been made. Members of the Nutrition Council have yet to be determined.
