THE THIRD Terry Razon Cup held at the Erenchun Field in the Ateneo resumed as the Blue Booters’ rookie lineup continued to show signs of maturity in preparation for the January University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Football Season.

In a face-off of last year’s UAAP finalists Far Eastern University (FEU) on September 17, Coach Ompong Merida remained consistent with the team’s objective for this tournament and continued to field their developing players.

“Coach emphasized our box defense to limit the FEU scorers. We played great. We may have lost possession-wise, but we sustained the game plan all the way,” said Booter Kurt Alvarez (III AB Eu).
“They [FEU] just won with set piece goals, but we were all happy with how the game turned out because our rookies played well,” he added.

Alvarez also talked about the first and third goals of FEU which came from free kicks. The latter took the Blue Booters by surprise as their wall and goalkeeper were unprepared.

The team learned right then and there of a new FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) rule that the kicker will not have to wait on them to set up, so they’re going to have to delay the play.

Freshman Anton Amistoso (I AB Comm) scored the lone goal for Ateneo during the 80th minute.
