THE ATENEO Men’s 3×3 Basketball Team continued their early season rampage, dispatching the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors, 21-14. The match was held earlier today, April 28, at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay in the City of Parañaque.
With this statement win, the Katipunan-based quartet composed of Shawn Tuano, Kyle Gamber, Alden Cainglet, and Andrew Bongo, cements the Blue Eagles on top of the chart.
Bongo spearheaded the Blue and White’s triumph, notching eight points alongside his pestering defense. Tuano and Gamber also stepped up to the challenge as the Atenean duo nabbed seven and five points, respectively.
Right off the bat, the Blue Eagles established an early 4-2 advantage, courtesy of back-to-back layups and a beyond the arc shot from Tuano. UEs Kristoper Lagat was able to force a deadlock at four with his own version of a two, but Gambers catch-and-shoot bomb from rainbow country put Ateneo on the drivers seat, 7-4.
Looking to plunge UE in a deeper hole, Blue Eagle veteran Bongo went on a solo 6-2 barrage to widen his squad’s lead to six, 13-7. However, after earning their biggest lead of the game, the Katipunan-based squad suffered under a cold spell that narrowed their edge to just two, 15-13.
Gamber ended his unit’s drought with his signature long shot, followed by a layup from Bongo that gave Ateneo a five-point cushion, 18-13. While Jhondrew Jimenez attempted to start a UE run, 18-14, Tuano delivered the finishing touches with a two-pointer and a reverse layup to seal the game for the Blue Eagles, 21-14.
Keen on sustaining their momentum, the Blue Eagles will face the Adamson Soaring Falcons and University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers tomorrow at 2:00 PM and 4:20 PM respectively, in the same venue.
