THE ATENEO College Arnis Varsity Team (ACAVT) struck with precision as they finished as the third best team overall during the 36th Arnis Pasindo Eskrima Invitational Tournament. The invitational took place last March 2 at the Jackman Plaza – Muñoz in Quezon City.
Proving that age is just a number, Assistant Coach and Senior Master Ryan Gialogo did not shy away from competition. Participating in the Open Weight Knife Event under the Men’s Master Division, the savvy veteran bagged a silver medal for his efforts.
Meanwhile, the team’s female arnisadores led the way with strong performances across the board. Under the Bantamweight Padded Stick Event in the Women’s Senior Division, two ACAVT team members met in the finals, guaranteeing a 1-2 finish in the category. After their clash, Sophia Avielle Gregorio came out on top to secure the gold medal, with Bernadette Chua finishing with silver.
Closing out the day also in the Women’s Senior Division, Women’s Team Captain Jianna Marie Corpuz and Julia Faith Natividad added on the final medals to their team’s tally by taking part in the Flyweight Padded Stick Event. Despite both of them losing their semifinal bouts, their skills on the mat allowed them to cop bronze in their category.
Following their performance, the team accumulated a total of five medals—one gold, two silvers, and two bronzes, demonstrating their prowess across multiple divisions.
