THE ATENEO Softball Team’s match against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tiger Softbelles was called off due to a heavy downpour earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium in the City of Manila.
Team Captain Rocio Macasaet delivered Ateneo’s play of the day, as her hit into the outfield allowed her to return to home plate and record Ateneo’s first run of the season.
The Blue Eagles continued to generate more runs throughout the match, with Macasaet and Co-Captain Raya Franco adding to Ateneo’s total. Unfortunately, the game was called off at the bottom of the third inning by chief umpire Jun Cruz, with the scoreline at 8-3 in favor of UST.
When asked about her home run despite the unique circumstances of the game’s finish, Macasaet shares how it has boosted her confidence and serves as a testament to the team’s progress.
“I think it really helped me with my confidence because that was something I was lacking in previous games. And I think that, little by little, our team is getting really [better] and improving every game, so that’s a good sign also. And I think after that, we were all able to hit and get on base, so [it’s] definitely a huge improvement from the past few games,” the skipper said.
With the game’s postponement, it will be rescheduled to a later date to be announced by tournament sub-host Adamson University. Additionally, the 8-3 scoreline will be nullified and reset to 0-0.
