THE ATENEO Men’s Chess Team (AMCT) capped off their University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 87 run with a victory after thrashing the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons, 3-1. The match occurred earlier this afternoon, followed by the awarding ceremony in the evening at the Adamson University Gym in the City of Manila.

The Blue Eagles deployed Team Captain Khalil Kis-ing, Knarf Batislaong, Manuel Maglunog, and Colin Chua on boards one to four, respectively.

Across the table, the Soaring Falcons released Frederick Sunga, Joshua Roque, Alfonzo Olendo, and Dustin Herrero on boards one to four, correspondingly.

Despite Batislaong absorbing a loss on the second board, Kis-ing, Manuel, and Chua asserted mastery over their respective adversaries, anchoring the Blue Eagles’ 3-1 victory over the Soaring Falcons.

When the dust finally settled, Ateneo secured the fifth spot with six match points—five points behind the fourth-place De La Salle University. Meanwhile, the podium was seized by the University of Santo Tomas, the University of the Philippines, and Far Eastern University after the universities clinched gold, silver, and bronze, respectively.

Serving as the highlight of the Men’s Chess Team’s Season 87 stint, Maglunog bagged bronze after winning one out of two games on board five.
