THE ATENEO Women’s Chess Team (AWCT) suffered their first defeat in the second stage of the University of the Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 87 against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Female Woodpushers, 1.5-2.5. The match was held earlier this afternoon at the Adamson University Gym in the City of Manila.

The Blue Eagles deployed Team Captain Kristine Flores, Elayza Villa, Lexia Hernandez, and Alphecca Gonzales on boards one to four, respectively. Across the table, the Female Woodpushers positioned Josemier Panol, Precious Yecla, Rohanisah Buto, and Christine Tabungar on boards one to four, correspondingly.

Despite the AWCT giving up boards one and two, Hernandez secured Ateneo’s first point of the match after trouncing Buto on the third board. While keen on leveling the score with a win on the last board, Gonzales only managed to get a stalemate that ultimately led to Ateneo’s defeat, 1.5-2.5.

Eager to get back on the winning column, the AWCT will face the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 17, in the same venue.
