THE ATENEO Blue Eagles gained new ground on the fourth day of events in Season 85 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Men’s Athletics Tournament. Both the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams competed on Saturday, December 3, at the PhilSports Complex in the City of Pasig.

To kick start their day, Jonathan Reyes competed as the Blue Eagles’ lone representative in the 1500-meter run. The distance runner finished 20th, with a time of 4:52.75.

In an impressive showing for the Blue and White, Team Captain Ray Vicente garnered points for the Men’s Track and Field Team, jumping 1.75m in the High Jump event and finishing 8th overall. Joaquin Ipapo followed closely, ranking 12th with a result of 1.60m.

Blue Eagles Mari Sison and JP Realuyo continued their stride in the 400-meter hurdles heats. Sison led the Ateneo side, finishing 19th with a time of 1:03.87. Meanwhile, Realuyo followed closely, placing 21st at a time of 1:08.18.

In the Discus Throw event, the duo of Carl Valenton and Thirdy Runas represented the Blue and White in their final outing of the day. Valenton ranked 18th with a distance of 27.36m, while Runas finished 19th with a score of 22.50m.

For the women’s side, Hillary Dee and Andie Dueñas competed in the Shot Put event. Dee ranked 16th with a result of 9.03m, followed by Dueñas with a score of 6.42m, landing 20th overall.

“I felt really good because I wanted to give my team some points. I’m the leader of this team, so I had to show everybody that Ateneo’s not just gonna go away. We tried our best and I’m really proud of my teammate, Joaquin Ipapo. I’m really proud of everybody,” said Vicente.

“I’m really thankful for all the ground I’ve made as an athlete, and all the ground we’ve made as a team. It actually shows from when we started training in July, and to where we are now. I’m also thankful that we’re able to push past our limits, and put out performances this week that we didn’t think we could do two weeks ago,” Sison added.

The events of the Athletics tournament will conclude today, December 4, at the PhilSports Complex in Pasig City.
