BUILDING ON their momentum from the first day, FAST Ateneo Men’s Swimming Team bagged home five medals in the individual events of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 Swimming Tournament. The Blue Eagles prevailed with four gold and two bronze finishes earlier today at the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Pool in the City of Manila.

For the individual event, former back-to-back Juniors Most Valuable Player Philip Santos set a new record in the Men’s 200-meter Backstroke, earning gold as he finished at 2:08.96 seconds. Joshua del Rio followed him in eighth place after his 2:21.01-second performance.

Despite lagging in the backstroke event, del Rio showed up for the Blue Eagles in the following event, clocking in with top speed in the Men’s 400-meter Freestyle to grab first place (4:11.54). In the same event, Juan Marco Daos and Rafael Barreto placed fourth (4:14.93) and seventh (4:20.02), respectively. Looking to recover from the Men’s 400-meter event, Barretto pulled out all stops and snagged gold at 55.95 seconds in the Men’s 100-meter Butterfly contest.

In the Men’s 50-meter Breastroke event, Rafael Isip raced for Rank 1 at a solid 29.63 seconds. Contributing to the Blue and White, Marco Tirol claimed the sole bronze for the individual events as he finished at 30.14 seconds. Justin Cheng followed in sixth place at 30.76 seconds.

Concluding the second day with the 4×100-meter Freestyle relay, the Blue Eagles consisting of Charles Ticbaen, Marco Austriaco, Isip, and Tirol clocked in 3:42.53 seconds to bring home the bronze medal.

The Blue Eagles’ winning mindset will once again be tested in five events happening tomorrow, November 26, starting at 8:30 AM for the preliminary heat at the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Pool in the City of Manila.
