IN HER Olympic debut, the Philippines’ Remedy Rule clocked in at 59.68 seconds; finishing second in Heat 2 of the Women’s 100m butterfly earlier today at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, Japan.

Ireland’s Ellen Walshe bagged first place in the said heat as she finished with a time of 59.35 seconds. Rounding off the top three was Hungary’s Dalma Sebestyen with her time of 59.79 seconds.

Rule had a strong start to the race as she timed in at 31.86 seconds after the first 50 meters. The final 50 meters of the race exhibited a down to the wire contest between Walshe and Rule, with the former touching the pad 0.33 seconds ahead of the Filipino swimmer.

Despite an impressive showing in her maiden Olympic event, Rule’s time was not enough to crack the top 16 swimmers that will advance to the semifinals.

However, the two-time Southeast Asian Games silver medalist will have another chance to go for a medal as she competes in the 200m Women’s butterfly event on July 27 in the Tokyo Aquatics Centre at 6:31 PM Manila time.
