Team
Despite reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) Andie Ignacio’s departure from the team after graduation, the Ateneo Women’s Fencing Team still boasts a dynamic roster entering this season’s collegiate duel. After a bridesmaid finish last year, the Lady Eagles are resolved to outdo themselves and finally win the joust for the crown.
Team Captain
Justine Joseph
Team Captain Justine Joseph is determined to end her career on a high note. With her maturity and experience, Joseph hopes to motivate her teammates and be a role model of excellence, bringing out a positive mindset that can yield strong results for the upcoming season.
“There’s a kind of maturity that comes with being in a sport for so long, and that makes me someone my teammates can rely on.”

Patricia Sarmiento
National gold medalist Patricia Sarmiento returns to the action with a renewed sense of hunger as she sings her swan song. Playing in her final year as a Lady Eagle, the seasoned veteran serves as a mentor for her younger teammates, pushing them to the limits of their ability en route to victory.

Patricia Paulo
Senior fencer Patricia Paulo dons the Blue and White once more on her final tour of duty for the Lady Eagles in Season 80. Having gained much experience from years past, Paulo will be a key combatant in the team’s quest for the elusive gold. The Lady Eagle will go all out with heart and resilience in her last season.

Monica Pangilinan
Despite her young age in the league, Monica Pangilinan has proven to be a key cog for the team this season. Despite the pressure and jitters that come with being a rookie, Pangilinan maintains the resolve to fight for her school, aspiring to prove her worth as a Lady Eagle for the first time.

Alexa Sumulong
Another rookie in the fold is Alexa Sumulong. Having developed a competitive nature as a former volleyball player, Sumulong has undergone extensive training and preparation for the upcoming season. She remains undaunted by the prospect of her approaching trial by fire in the league.

Coach’s Corner
Walter Torres
Former National Team Coach Walter Torres sets his target on the goal of finally winning a championship for the Blue and White. With a deep pool of talent at his disposal this season, the Lady Eagles’ mentor will rely on experience in familiar territory and a strong-willed disposition in his latest campaign.
“The mainstays of the women’s team are showing positive signs-both in training and tournaments-that a podium finish is possible once again this season.”
