Team
After missing out on a podium finish last season, the Lady Eagles eye a run for the championship in their latest campaign on the college tennis courts. Building upon the groundwork of the preseason, members of the Ateneo Women’s Tennis Team look to serve up greater success in Season 80.
Team Captain
Jana Hernandez
On her fourth year of service, Jana Hernandez returns to lead the charge in Season 80. No stranger to the competitive atmosphere of collegiate tennis, the Assumption College alumna reiterates the importance of teamwork and chemistry in exceeding expectations for their squad this year.
“I want the girls to come into the season with the mindset that if we win, we win together, and if we lose, we lose together,” she says. “Walang iwanan (No one gets left behind).”
Jana Pages
Still recovering from the brunt of a patellar tendinitis injury, Jana Pages starts her third playing year as a reliable veteran. The Season 78 Rookie of the Year lends her strong groundstrokes and solid baseline play, fueling camaraderie and unity on the courts with her vast experience.
Khrizelle Sampaton
Known for her composure in the clutch, Khrizelle Sampaton starts her senior year as one of the league’s most seasoned players with four years of college experience under her belt. Usually placed in critical team-tie situations, Sampaton will carry the team’s weight in crucial moments this year.
Carmen So
Assumption College product Carmen So has built a decorated resumé with appearances at the Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) and Palarong Pambansa. So lends youth to the squad, facing the first test of her mettle on the collegiate court.
Martina Bautista
Another familiar face in the WNCAA and Palarong Pambansa tennis courts, Assumption College graduate Martina Bautista joins the pack in her rookie year. No stranger to the competitive nature of inter-school tournaments, Bautista dons the Blue and White with pride and ambition as a new Lady Eagle.
Coach’s Corner
Jennifer Saret
At the helm of the Lady Eagles’ title charge this season is award-winning player Jennifer Saret. While results may not have gone in her squad’s way last season, marked by a 2-6 record for the team, Coach Saret remains headstrong and confident in her squad heading into Season 80.
