THE ATENEO Blue and Lady Eagle played their penultimate game of their University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season against University of the East (UE) and University of Sto. Tomas (UST) respectively on Saturday, April 1 at Adamson University.

Veteran Renzo Marquez claims a crucial point

The Ateneo Blue Eagles were without their Team Captain, Ricki Yao, once more as they took on UE in the 13th round of the UAAP Season 79, with Renzo Marquez, Gavin Ong, and Jolo Lat lining up for the Blue and Whites.

The Blue Eagles were unable to field a full team due to a lack of ineligible players again, as Yao was unable to attend due to a prior engagement. The day took a turn for the worse, as Lat was disqualified for failing to abide by UAAP Chess rules regarding cellular phone involvement while Ong lost out in a difficult match.

It was Marquez, however, who managed to turn things around for the Blue Eagles as he claimed an emphatic victory to earn a crucial point ahead of their season-defining meeting against 7th place University of the Philippines in the final round of the season.

Membrere looks to finish strong in her final season

The Lady Eagles Team Captain Bren Membrere, along with Aryanne de Ocampo, Ana de Duque and Jill Feliciano stepped up to represent the Ateneo Lady Eagles against UST in the penultimate matchup of the season.

Like their male counterparts, the Lady Eagles were looking to take as many points as they could to ensure that 7th place could still be within reach.

The day finished very well for the Lady Eagles who managed to secure 1.5 points out of a possible 4 points via a win from Membrere and a draw from Feliciano. The results bodes well for the Lady Eagles, as they end their season against 7th seed National University.

The Ateneo Blue and Lady Eagles will play University of the Philippines (UP) and National University (NU) respectively on Sunday, April 2 at De La Salle University in Manila.
