THE ATENEO Blue and Lady Eagles continued their University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season against National University (NU) and Far Eastern University (FEU), respectively on Sunday, March 26 at De La Salle University in Manila.
Lat gives Blue Eagles lifeline
The Ateneo Blue Eagles were without their team captain, Ricki Yao, as they took on top-seed NU, with veterans Renzo Marquez and Jolo Lat, as well as promising rookie Gavin Ong lining up for the Blue and White.
The Blue Eagles were unable to field a full team due to a lack of ineligible players, as Yao was unable to attend due to an emergency. Despite the absence of their board 1 teammate, Lat managed to hold his NU counterpart to a draw on board 4 giving Ateneo a lifeline, as they look to pull ahead of 7th place University of the Philippines with two matches to go.
FEU sweeps Ateneo in the second round-robin
The Lady Eagles Team Captain Bren Membrere along with Mine Sandoval, Aryanne de Ocampo and Jill Feliciano took on the responsibility of representing the Ateneo against rivals FEU in the 12th round of UAAP Women’s Chess.
The Lady Eagles were unable to replicate their previous positive results against UP in the 10th round as they fell to FEU, 0-4, risking a last place finish with only two matches to earn points.
The Ateneo Blue and Lady Eagles will play University of the East (UE) and University of Santo Tomas (UST), respectively on Saturday, April 1 at Adamson University.
