In line with the Voters’ Education goal of the Ateneo Task Force 2010, Sabay sa Bayan (SSB): A Series of Leadership and Government Forums were launched to increase the interaction of the students to the candidates. SSB speakers include government officials, partylist members and 2010 election candidates.

Out of the six SSB forums organized as of press time, only three were able to push through.

Chiz Escudero on the youth
Senator Chiz Escudero, who at that time planned to run for a presidential seat, said that his platform will focus on Philippine education so that the youth could maximize their participation. For him, the youth plays a huge role in developing the country and voting for the country’s next leader. Last November, Escudero dropped out of the presidential race.

Nick Perlas on sustainable development

Presidential candidate Nicanor “Nicky” Perlas discussed how sustainable development to improve the country’s economic system. A United Nations consultant and an environmentalist, he said that the Philippines can achieve progress if there are efforts in bettering the environment. He also stressed on the importance of the political, social, cultural and spiritual aspects of the country.

Ruffy Biazon and Yasmin Lao on private armies

Ruffy Biazon is a congressman of Muntinlupa district while Yasmin Lao is a peace and civil society advocate seeking gender equality for Muslim women. Both are members of the Liberal Party.  They condemn the Maguindanao massacre and advise that private armies be disbanded.
