HAVING LOST their previous game against rival De La Salle University, the Blue Eagles bounced back with a victory over the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, 6-3, in the opening match of the second round on Sunday, February 21 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate.

The blue batters took the lead early on, scoring three runs in the third inning and one in the fourth. Battered by a combined nine hits from Kai Furusawa and Renzo Ramos, the Growling Tigers attempted to retaliate in the sixth inning, batting in two runs to cut the Ateneo’s lead to its smallest all game.

However, the Blue Eagles answered back, bringing the lead back to four by the eight inning while the España-based squad were unable to answer back in the ninth, falling short of the win after some infield heorics from second baseman Marquis Alindogan.

This win puts the Blue Eagles at 5-1 in the elimination round standings of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 Baseball tournament.

Their next game will be against the National University, 1PM, Thursday, February 25 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate.
