THE ATENEO Lady Eagles defeated the University of the Philippines in straight sets, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21, on Sunday, February 14 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Blue and White dominated the first set as they focused on their attacks and combination plays. However, the Lady Maroons’ defense eventually overpowered these attempts, as they received and blocked off the powerful attacks of the Lady Eagles. Fortunately for Coach Anusorn Bundit’s squad, the number of service errors and attacks missed by the Lady Maroons eventually helped the Ateneo pull through to earn the game.

“Blocking, receiving, all the basics,” Team Captain Alyssa Valdez said on what her team still needs to improve upon despite their early dominance. “Kailangan din namin ito to get the confidence (We still need this win to get the confidence).”

This win puts the Lady Eagles at 4-0 in the elimination round standings of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 Women’s Volleyball tournament.

Their next game will be against the Adamson University, 2PM, Saturday, February 20 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
