THE ATENEO Blue Eagles defeated the National University (NU) 8-4 on Sunday, February 7 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate.

Marco Mallari’s sole home run was the highlight of a 5-0 Ateneo run that lasted until the sixth inning. Meanwhile, NU threatened a comeback with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, capped off by a Clarence Caasalan base hit that scored Alfredo de Guzman.

However it was Blue Eagle pitcher Nacho Lozano who came in the eight inning and eventually made the two-inning save to close out the Bulldogs.

“I feel good that all my teammates are doing really well, especially my rookies,” Team Captain Ryon Tionloc said. “They’re doing more than what’s expected from them; they’re playing so well.”

This win puts the Blue and White at 2-0 in the elimination round standings of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Baseball tournament.

Their next game will be against the University of Santo Tomas, 1:00PM, Thursday, February 11 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate.
