SEVERAL HOURS after winning the championship in the Milcu x Got Skills Elite Showcase, Team Glory Be of the Ateneo Men’s Basketball team succumbed to fatigue as they lost to the Arellano University Chiefs, 94-102, in the Fr. Martin Cup on Sunday, September 13, inside the San Beda College gymnasium in Mendiola, Manila.

The Blue Eagles were able to establish a rhythm offensively early in the game by capitalizing on their size advantage to score inside and off offensive rebounds. Defensively, they were also able to neutralize the Chiefs to just 39 points by halftime.

However, right as the second half began, fatigue started to set in as several players from the Blue and White started to cramp up and could not continue playing. Shots that were falling in earlier in the game started missing and the Chiefs were able to capitalize off the team’s miscues. Arellano held the Katipunan-based squad to 16 points while scoring 29 of their own in the third quarter to give them a 63-68 edge heading into the final phase of the game.

Anton Asistio and CJ Perez would lead four Blue Eagles in double figures as they scored 16 points apiece to pace the Blue and White. However, tired legs eventually led both players to struggle shooting from the field. Both Tomas Ramos and Timothy Cu added 12 points apiece, with the latter adding a team-high 10 rebounds for a solid double-double performance.

This game also marked the debut of Fil-Am recruit Shaggy Allmond as he scored seven points in his maiden game for the team.

The team drops to 2-1 after opening the season with consecutive victories. They play their next game against AMA Computer College on Saturday, September 19, 11 AM inside the Arellano University gymnasium in Legarda, Manila.
