Sobredo’s hat trick downs Lady Eagles in PFF Women’s Cup

THE ATENEO Lady Eagles lost against the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws, 0-4 on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

FEU striker Barbie Sobredo drew first blood for the Lady Tamaraws in the first half with a powerful strike in the 25th minute after precise passing in the Ateneo box. She would go on to score twice more in the second half on her way to a hat trick: In the 57th minute, Sobredo swerved the ball over Ateneo keeper Mariane Caparros directly from a corner kick. She didn’t stop there, going for a one-touch finish in the 67th minute after succesfully forcing an Ateneo turnover close to the Blue and White’s own goal.

Fellow attacker Rocelle Lescara knocked in the fourth goal in the 73rd minute, a one-on-one chance with only the keeper to beat after a splitting pass from the FEU midfield.

This loss puts the Lady booters at 1-1-0 with a goal difference of -2 in the elimination round standings of the second Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Women’s Invitational Cup. The team is in Group A alongside Green Archers United FC, Far Eastern University, University of the Philippines-Y, and Sikat FC.

The Ateneo Women’s Football team’s next game will be on Sunday, August 30. Details on time, venue and oppenent to follow.
