Students, faculty battle ‘Chem geeks’
AFTER GETTING through a variety of chemistry-related questions, Chemistry Associate Professor Nestor Valera, Ph.D. was proclaimed the winner of the Ateneo Chemical Society’s (ACheS) first ever “Beat the Chem Geeks” competition on September 16.
Faculty and students pitted against three professors from the Chemistry Department. The competition was ACheS Week themed “Resonance: Intensifying the Passion.”

Ateneans garner literary awards
A total of ten Ateneo students, faculty and alumni and one literary publication were granted literary awards by the Unyon ng Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL) and the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature.
Faculty members Alfred Yusona and Edna Zapanta-Manlapaz, and Ateneo’s literary publication Heights were recognized by UMPIL while students Cristina Tantengco and Violet Lucasi, alumni Jing Panganiban-Mendoza, Alwyn Javier and Paolo Chikiamco, and faculty members Vincenz Serrano, Michael Coroza and Mark Anthony Cayanan received different Palancas.
