THOSE NOT part of the Sanggunian can help organize its projects this year.
Through its Sanggu Awareness Week, members of the student government allowed non-members to sign up as volunteers for different committees under the Central Board and Schools Boards. The Ateneo Commission on Elections and the Student Judicial Court also accepted volunteers.
School of Management School Board Chair Daryll Santillan said that Sanggu Awareness Week aimed to get students involved with Sanggu projects. “They’re not simply an audience or a participant—they [will] also [help] organize it.”
Sanggu Awareness Week was held from June 17 to 19 and June 22 to 24 at the SEC-C Foyer and the Social Sciences Foyer, respectively.
Everyone’s Sanggu?
According to Sanggu Secretary-General Kacci Morales, Sanggu Awareness Week was a way of promoting volunteerism among the students. “As part of our thrust, what we’re doing is to provide avenues for them [the students] to contribute in LS (Loyola Schools) activities,” she said.
Morales added that Sanggu will empower the student volunteers. “We [will] also let them give and contribute ideas to the project. We let them get inside Sanggu, work in Sanggu, and get to know what Sanggu does.”
No limits
Once a student has signed up for a certain committee, no other requirements are needed. “It’s enough that you’re attending, that you’re volunteering for a certain project,” Morales said.
School of Social Sciences (SOSS) Executive Officer Chica Villarta also said that a volunteer in a certain committee is not limited to a certain year or course. “Just because you’re, for example, a SOSS student doesn’t mean that you have to sign up as a volunteer under SOSS.”
Morales said that she the volunteers to experience heading a project throughout their stay in the Ateneo. “Basically, what we want…is for them to be involved in the activities,” she said.
Santillan also hoped that those who signed up will be good and efficient volunteers. “I hope that once they sign up … they’ll also be devoted to what they’ll be doing.”
