What are your views on the renewed fight for Carper?

“Mabuti ay nabuhay na ito muli at naiba ang approach. It’s about time we make a statement saying that not only a certain group of Ateneans advocate Carper, but this is a multi-sectoral effort. What’s nicer here is that this is not an inter-org collaboration per se, but a synergy of concerned Ateneans, faculty, staff, and maintenance.”

– Kurt Dion Cendaña (II AB IS)

“I don’t really know…what the [contents] of Carper [are], but I’m wondering if renewing the fight will do anything given that we still have an ineffective political system and corrupt officials.”

– Selene Elizabeth Uy (III AB Comm)

“I have no idea what that is. I don’t watch the news.”

– Rhozette Angeli Perez (I AB Eu)

“I think the renewed support for Carper shows the stand taken by many of its recent supporters. However it’s a sad issue that this much avid support has only come when the reality of the CARP’s duration is about to end. It would have been better if this much support and fervor had been present since CARP’s inception.”

– Oliver Neil Cruz (II BS HSc)

“If the farmers don’t own the land, then they don’t have the right to protest.”

– Joseph Anthony Lim (III BS Psy)

“I think that the farmers should be supported. I mean, agriculture is a rather important part of economy. To decrease the amount of agriculture that we have is kinda…well…stupid in my opinion.”

– Jan Rupert Alfeche (I BFA CW)

“I see that the last thing the government should do is break their promise to the people. The government made a promise for agrarian reform and it should be fulfilled.”

– Blaise Joshua Morales (II AB Hum)

“I applaud the renewal of support. It shows that Ateneans aren’t apathetic. I just hope that this effort would be continuous and not just a one-time big time initiative. ”

– Angela Eliza Lim (IV BS CTM)

“Well, I think it’s good that the Ateneo community is supporting it. At the same time, I have to wonder if the students really understand the situation, or if we’re just getting caught up with blog posts and rhetoric.”

– Camille Eugenia Naredo (II AB Comm)

“I agree na they should benefit more, and they should fight for it kasi sila naghirap para alagaan ‘yung lupa. Pero hindi ako agree na sa kanila dapat mapunta kasi nga originally it wasn’t theirs. Pero they should get more out of it than the owners.”

– Daniel Armando Liamco (I BS Mgt-H)

“Well, it’s good that the CARP issue was revived and is now being talked again, but hopefully, this time we’d get to see something actually happening. What’s needed regarding this issue is the support and the action coming from the government.”

– Mary Kristal Lee (II BS LM)
