THE ATENEO Golf Teams resumed their University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) campaigns, with the Men’s Team holding steady in third place, while the Women’s Team slipped to second in their respective team standings. The tournament reached its halfway mark earlier today, May 12, at the Tagaytay Midlands Golf Club in the City of Tagaytay.

Glenn Unabia, Schmuel Tan, Mich Romero, and Juan Escano continued to don the Blue and White for the Men’s Tournament. On the other hand, Monique Mendoza, Simi Tinio, Andie Joson, and Annika Jalbuena held the fort on the women’s side.

Men’s Tournament

Unabia led the rounds for Ateneo, scoring 74 to add to his 76 from Day 1 for  a total of 150. With this, the Blue Eagle golfer improved his place from joint-fifth to solo fourth in the individual statsheet.

Tan followed suit on Unabia’s tally, posting 75 from yesterday’s 84 for 159 points in total. Escano also contributed an 86-stroke count in today’s play to bring his tally to 166.

Rounding up the points for Ateneo is tournament debutant Romero who put up an 82-stroke count as Ateneo maintained its position at third after the first 36 holes with a team score of 471. This places the Blue and White behind the De La Salle University and the University of the Philippines who are at 440 and 466 respectively.

Women’s Tournament

Contrary to yesterday’s events, Mendoza faced challenges at the green, recording a score of 91 strokes, 19 over par. This result dropped her to fifth in the women’s individual standings.

Avenging their teammate, Tinio and Joson rose to the occasion with better outings on the fairway. Tallying scores of 85 and 94, respectively, the Blue Eagles climbed the ranks to a respectable third and fifth place standing.

Taking the reins from Renee Heredia, Jalbuena displayed precision on the course as she made her UAAP debut. Recording a score of 96 on Day 2, she managed to post the seventh-fewest strokes among all competitors for the round.

Eager to create further separation from the opposition, the Blue Eagles will continue their campaign in the third leg of the tournament tomorrow, 7:00 AM, at the same venue.
