STILL IN search of their first breakthrough, the Ateneo Softball Team (AST) absorbed a 0-17 defeat against the Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons in their second-round encounter. The match was held earlier today, March 21, at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium in the City of Manila.

This setback keeps the Blue and White at the bottom of the standings with a 0-7 slate.

Despite the loss, Katrice Ditchon proved to be a silver lining for Ateneo, accounting for two of the team’s three total hits in the game.

The Katipunan-based squad struggled to find their rhythm at the beginning of the game, giving up nine early runs to the Lady Falcons. Eager to bounce back, the Blue Eagles attempted to get things going on the offensive end. However, the AST failed to score a run, leading to a 0-9 deficit at the end of the first frame.

The second inning told the same story, as the Blue Eagles surrendered six runs to the San Marcelino-based squad. At the bottom of the second, Ateneo continued to be riddled by misfortune, finishing the frame with no runs on the board, 0-15.

In danger of falling to a mercy rule, Ateneo tightened their defense, only allowing two runs in the third inning. However, the Blue and White came up empty at the plate, ultimately losing the game, 0-17.

The AST will look to enter the win column against neighboring rivals, the UP Fighting Maroons, on Tuesday, March 24, at 11:00 AM at the same venue.

The Lines:

Ateneo (0): 0 0 0 x x x x – 0 3 8

  2. UST Tiger Softbelles (5-1)
  3. UP Fighting Maroons (4-2)
  4. DLSU Lady Batters (2-5)
