THE ATENEO Chess Teams captured mixed results during week two of the second stage of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 87 earlier this afternoon at the Adamson University Gym in the City of Manila.

The Men’s Team suffered a 1-3 defeat against the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws, while the Women’s Team continued their winning streak by securing a 3.5-1.5 victory over  the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in the Battle of Katipunan.

Taking on the Tamaraws were Paul Llanillo, Romeo Canino, Team Captain Khalil Kis-ing, and Knarf Batislaong.

Atenean skipper Kis-ing claimed the team’s sole victory by  defeating John Jacutina of the Morayta-based squad. Meanwhile, Llanillo, Canino, and Batislaong struggled to find their rhythm, falling to FEU’s Mark Bacojo, Dale Bernardo, and Istraelito Rilloraza.

Meanwhile, facing the Fighting Maroons were Team Captain Kristine Flores, Elayza Villa, Lexie Hernandez, and Alphecca Gonzales.

Villa, Hernandez, and Gonzales dominated their rivals and came out victorious against Precious Ferrer, Jallen Agra, and Raiza Locmayoan of the Diliman-based squad. On the other hand, Flores secured half-a-point for the team after settling for a deadlock against Jerlyn San Diego.

With these results, the Ateneo Men’s Chess Team looks to snap their two-game losing skid against the UP Fighting Maroons, while the Ateneo Women’s Chess Team aims to extend their winning run as they take on the De La Salle University Lady Woodpushers tomorrow at 1:00 PM, at the same venue.
