The Ateneo Women’s Chess Team (AWCT) marked their prowess in the homecourt of the Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons, clinching their first win in the second stage of their University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 87 campaign, 3.5-0.5. The fixture took place earlier this afternoon at the Adamson University Gym in the City of Manila.

Lined up for today’s quarter of queens were Team Captain Kristine Flores, Elayza Villa, Lexie Hernandez, and Alphecca Gonzales, who took on their San Marcelino-based counterparts on the four boards, respectively.

After settling for stalemates in their previous battle against the Lady Falcons, Flores and Villa successfully trounced AdU’s Angela San Luis and Zheileen Jain. Meanwhile, Gonzales also secured a win, taking down Mariane Flora.

Hernandez’ efforts also contributed to cementing the Blue Eagles’ victory with a draw against Adamson’s Robelle De Jesus.

With today’s decisive game, the AWCT hopes to continue their streak on the boards against their Katipunan rivals, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, on Saturday, October 9, at 3:00 PM in the same venue.
