THE ATENEO Men’s Baseball Team’s (2-8) woeful season ends with an eight-game losing skid, falling to the National University (NU) Bulldogs (4-6) in a 3-11 rout. The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 match was held earlier today, April 15, at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Baseball Field in Quezon City.

With today’s loss, Ateneo suffers their worst record in a single year since Season 72 of the UAAP, ending this year at sixth place.

Despite scoring first in the second inning courtesy of graduating designated hitter Joaquin Alcaraz, the Blue Eagles failed to contain the Bulldogs’ offense, giving up nine runs in the next five innings.

NU’s first baseman Keishi Okamoto finished with an impressive four hits in five at-bats, highlighted by a base hit along the left field foul line in the fourth frame. Right Fielder Kevin Mauilit also capped off his season in style as he added two hits in three at-bats while also sending three runners home in the process.

Alcaraz and graduating captain Aloi Tuprio then scored the final two runs of the Blue Eagles’ season in the seventh inning, with Tuprio finishing with three hits in four at-bats.

The Blue Eagles now look ahead to the future, as they look to revamp their roster and retool their system, hoping for better results in Season 86 of the UAAP.
