IN HIS second 2020 Tokyo Olympics event, the Philippines’ Luke Gebbie clocked in at 22.84 seconds; finishing first in Heat 5 of the Men’s 50m Freestyle event earlier today at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Emir Muratovic followed in second place in the heat as he timed in at 22.91 seconds. Completing the top three was Armenia’s Artur Barseghyan with his time of 23.14 seconds.

Despite being tied for last in terms of reaction time, Luke Gebbie had pace to burn as he quickly made up for it to ultimately finish in first place in his heat—0.07 seconds faster than second placed Muratovic.

Unfortunately, Gebbie’s impressive first place finish in Heat 5 was only good enough for 41st fastest overall. Only the top 16 swimmers with the fastest times will advance to tomorrow’s semifinals.

With Gebbie bowing out of the 50 meter Freestyle event, both of the Philippines’ swimmers have ended their campaigns in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
