Team
The Ateneo Women’s Swimming team has established itself as a perennial challenger for the title, only narrowly missing the three-peat championship last season. Boosted by a strong rookie class and seasoned leaders, this crew of swimmers has the tools to rule the lanes and continue the legacy of excellence.
Team Captain
Julia Balanag
Taking up the mantle in the journey to dominate the waters is senior Julia Balanag. Regrouping returning veterans and easing the promising rookie class is a challenge, but Balanag’s commitment to every swimmer on the team will be a valuable asset in taking back the gold.
“With a great set of rookies and the veterans that have just gotten better and better, I believe we have a greater chance of winning it all this year.”
Ariana Herranz
Donning local and international accolades in the final stretch of her college career, Ariana Herranz remains focused as ever on bringing home the championship. Coming off a dominant performance in last season’s 100-meter backstroke race, the former Rookie of the Year has the speed and confidence to deliver yet again.
Raegan Gavino
Raegan Gavino, also a former Rookie of the Year, aims to bounce back. After tasting early success in her career and undergoing last year’s frustrating defeat, the medley swimmer has gained plenty of experience, forging the character of a reliable team player.
Chloe Daos
Not often does a powerhouse team look to a rookie to contribute right away, but Chloe Daos has the skill to crack a stacked line-up. Unfazed, the Immaculate Conception Academy product has her focus set on a stellar season and the Rookie of the Year award, making her debut in the Blue and White definitely one to watch.
Jazmin Chua
With a high school record that boasts an affinity for victory, Jazmin Chua is another rookie who aims to contribute to the quest for the title. As a breaststroke specialist, Chua will be an asset to the team and might just be the swimmer to put the Lady Eagles over the top.
Coach’s Corner
Candice Esguerra-Federiso
Candice Esguerra-Federiso has been a mainstay in the program for the past five years, playing a key role in the team’s consistent excellence. Esguerra points to the strong camaraderie among the Lady Eagles as a driving factor towards success. Vowing redemption this season, Esguerra’s formula for success will be crucial to the team’s chances.
“We want to enjoy everything, from being in the UAAP to the way we get ready. No more hard feelings about last year’s loss. We’ll treat it as lessons learned and we’ll start from there.
