THE ATENEO Blue and Lady Eagles continued their University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season against University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Adamson University respectively on Saturday, March 18 at De La Salle University in Manila.

Blue Eagles fail to register points

The Blue Eagles entered the match against third-place UST with only Team Captain Ricki Yao and standout rookie Gavin Ong lining up for the Blue and White. Lacking two eligible players to complete the four-man lineup, the Blue Eagles automatically conceded two boards and two precious points to their rivals.

Losses for Yao and Ong on their boards wrapped up a sweep for UST. The Ateneo Men’s Chess Team finished the day with eight losses and a single draw for the UAAP season.

Captain Membrere leading by example

The Lady Eagles were determined to garner crucial points against opponents Adamson as they fielded a strong lineup featuring Team Captain Bren Membrere, Aryanne de Ocampo, Jasmine Principe, and Ana de Duque.

While de Ocampo, Principe, and de Duque failed to contribute to their team’s cumulative score, Membrere emerged victorious to salvage something from the otherwise disappointing team-tie against the Adamson Falcons.

Both the Blue and Lady Eagles will be looking to make amends in their upcoming matches against Adamson University and University of the Philippines (UP) on Sunday, March 19, at De La Salle University, Manila.
