THE ATENEO Blue and Lady Eagles continued their University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season against Far Eastern University (FEU) and De La Salle University (DLSU), respectively on Saturday, March 25 at the University of Santo Tomas Quadricentennial Pavilion in Morayta.

Marquez the only positive on a tough day

The Blue Eagles, still looking for a team win in their Season 79 campaign, lost at the hands of FEU, with veteran Renzo Marquez being the only one who managed to contribute to their points tally with a draw.

Along with Marquez on board 2, Team Captain Ricki Yao and Rookies Gavin Ong and Lance Ting were the Ateneo Blue Eagles selected to take on a strong FEU lineup. Unfortunately, only Marquez was able to salvage a draw against the UAAP Chess powerhouse.

Captain Membrere leads by example

The Lady Eagles Team Captain Bren Membrere, along with Mine Sandoval, Aryanne de Ocampo and Jill Feliciano took on the responsibility of representing the Ateneo against rivals DLSU.

Coming from an encouraging 1.5-2.5 result against UP in the previous round, the Lady Eagles entered the matchup against the Lady Archers looking to add crucial points to their cumulative point tally.

Despite their positive and upbeat attitude before the tie, only Membrere managed to claim a point for the Lady Eagles, bringing her point tally to 7 points, the highest of any UAAP Women’s Chess player positioned on board 3, as well as the highest of any Ateneo Chess player.

The Ateneo Blue and Lady Eagles will play National University (NU) and FEU, respectively on Sunday, March 26 at De La Salle University in Manila.
