THE ATENEO Blue and Lady Eagles competed in their day 2 of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 79 Track and Field Championship. The competition itself was held on Thursday, February 9 at the Philsports Arena (Formerly ULTRA) and will run until Sunday, February 12.

Blue Eagles

Veterans Maui Ramos and Che Guevarra ran the 200m dash. While Che Guevarra finished behind his visibly skilled competitors, Maui Ramos was able to make it to the final round, ranking 7th (22.82s) in the heats. His time improved in the final ranking 7th again with a time of 22.71s.

Julius Yim was also of note today finishing an intense 10,000m event. However, he finished behind other competitors.

Lady Eagles

During the 200m final however, her physical acumen and skill did not match up to her competition as she finished 4th again with a time of 25.93s; the bronze medal eluding her. Nika Crisostomo also tried her skill at the 200m dash event, almost making it to the final clocking 26.68s and ranking 9th in the heat.

There are still more chances

Day 3 will feature the biggest bulk of the team will compete in multiple events. For the men’s division: Co-Captain Mikee Ruiz and Rabbi Villanueva will be running in the 400m run heats. Captain Gab Vera Cruz will be starting the 4x100m dash relay followed by Che Guevarra, Henry Gonzales and Maui Ramos in that order.

The three rookies Jia Kawachi, Martha Capistrano and Chaloo Yao will be making their UAAP debut in the pole vault event. Fellow rookie Sophia De Dios will also debut in the discus throw.

Veterans Kim Zulueta will be joined by Betty Margulies, Marianne Caparros and Nika Crisostomo in the women’s 4x100m dash relay.
