Blue and Lady Eagles come out medalless in the poomsae events

THE ATENEO Blue and Lady Eagles competed in the poomsae events to open day 1 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Taekwondo Championship on Friday, October 21 Blue Eagle Gym in Loyola Heights, Quezon City.

In the individual events, Lady Eagle Bea Bautista drew first blood with a score of 7.36 and 7.48 for a total of 7.42, while Blue Eagle Aaron Agojo scored 7.94 and 8.12 for a total of 8.03.

Meanwhile, duo Jana Morales and Justin de Leon scored 7.68 and 7.66 for a total of 7.67 in the pair event. The sole team event representatives were Lady Eagle trio Patrica Abalos, Beatrice Bautista, and Ana Macalinao, who went on to score 7.74 and 7.64 for a total of 7.69 to conclude the poomsae competition for the Blue and Lady Eagles.

On his first year as coach of the Ateneo poomsae team, Coach Marvin Gabriel noted that his team faired well despite failing to win a medal. “They still are far from the veteran [teams],” he admitted. “But from last year they improved.”

Sparring action for the Blue and Lady Eagles will be held on Sunday, October 23 at Blue Eagle Gym in Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
