The Ateneo Blue and Lady Eagles failed to garner a single medal at the conclusion of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 78 Fencing tournament held at the Blue Eagle Gym in the Ateneo de Manila University from February 10 to 13.

The second day featured blue fencers Kyle Lim and Red Limjoco both finishing the poulings ranked ninth and 11th, respectively, in the Men’s Foil Individual event. Meanwhile, the Women’s Sabre Individual event saw Justine Joseph and Audrey Uyan place eighth and 12th, respectively. Joseph was able to acquire a win-loss record of 2-3, while Uyan finished with a 1-4 record after the poulings.

On the other hand, lady fencers Pat Sarmiento and Andie Ignacio finished sixth and tenth, respectively, in the Women’s Epee Individual event, with records of 3-2 and 1-4.

Their fortunes did not improve during the third and fourth days either, as the Blue and White failed to garner a medal in any of the team events. The third day featured matches for the Men’s Épée team composed of Simon Borja, Joao Celestino, Spencer Galit, and Michael Tan; the Men’s Sabre team represented by Daniel Yu, Ethan Bennett, Paolo Villegas, and Brent Trinidad; and the Women’s Foil team composed of Ignacio, Antonia Elumba, Patricia Paulo, and Joseph.

Playing in the final day of the tourney were the fencers competing in the Men’s Foil competition represented by Derich Cabrera, Lim, Limjoco and Joshua Yu; the Women’s Sabre team represented by Joseph, Audrey Uyan, Eugenie Huibonhua, and Ignacio; and the Women’s Epee team composed of Sarmiento, Ignacio, Precious Castillo and Mary Rose Hernandez.
