THE ATENEO Blue Eagles swept the De La Salle University Green Archers, 5-0 on Saturday, February 20 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate.

The Blue and White dominated from the get-go, with near-perfect individual performances by Iyo Canlas, Ino Canlas, and Marcen Gonzales.

On the doubles side, the Ateneo would win both matches thanks to Johann Exconde and Luke Flores, and AJ Rivero and Erj Gatdula.

“Team effort [and] confidence,” said Flores on the reasons for their dominant performance. “We really trained hard to prepare for this game.”

This win puts the Blue Eagles at 5-3, good for third place in the elimination round standings of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Lawn Tennis tournament.

Meanwhile, the Women’s team also emerged victorious as they defeated the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 4-1. They have improved their record to 3-3, putting them at third place in the standings.

The Blue Eagles’ next game will be against the University of the East, 11:00AM, Sunday, February 21 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. The Lady Eagles, meanwhile, will go against the National University, 8:00AM, Wednesday, February 24 at the same venue.
