THE ATENEO Blue Eagles dominated the University of the Philippines (UP), 26-9 on Sunday, February 14 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate.

The Ateneo started out strong with four runs in the first inning, capped off by a wild pitch from UP starting pitcher Gab Rodriguez that allowed third baseman Gino Tantuico to cross home.

However, an error from the Blue and White in the bottom of the fifth allowed UP to close the gap to one run, with the score at 7-6.

However, that was as close as the Fighting Maroons would get, as the blue batters went on a scoring binge for the rest of the game–highlighted by the ninth inning, where they scored nine runs and went through the entire lineup once.

“I was very happy with the performance of everyone on the team today. We treated today as a statement game to all the other teams,” Team Captain Ryan Tionloc said. “We’re all ready to play hard.”

This win puts the Blue Eagles at 4-0 in the elimination round standings of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 Baseball tournament.

Their next game will be against the De La Salle University, 10AM, Thursday, February 18 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate.
