THE ATENEO Lady Eagles defeated National University (NU), 4-1, on Sunday, September 27 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

The lady shuttlers started strong, fielding in Bianca Carlos in the first singles match of the day against NU’s Lovely Magallano. The Lady Bulldog did not get much of a chance as Carlos used a bevy of lithe attacks to keep the rallies short and on point. The end of the first set ended with dominant 21-6 score in favor of the Blue and White.

More of the same happened in the second set, where Carlos took full control of her opponent. With precision shots and expert timing, the Lady Eagle finished off Magallano with a final score of 21-5.

In the rest of the singles matches that followed, Lady Eagle Cassie Lim defeated Marinel Diansay in three sets (21-12, 17-21, and 21-11). Lim struggled with unforced errors throughout the match, especially in the second set, but still managed to pull through.

On the other hand, Sam Santos struggled against Lady Bulldog Jiselle Capillo. Santos would put up a valiant effort during a neck and neck second set, but eventually lost with set scores of 14-21 and 19-21.

Janel Dihiansan and Geva de Vera represented the Blue and White in the first doubles match of the day against Magallano and Amica Duay. After a slow start, the Eagles eventually managed to pull away with set scores of 21-17 and 21-13.

Carlos and Lim made up the tandem for the second doubles match. It was a back and forth affair which saw both Lady Eagles struggle at times against Capillo and Diansay. However, the lady shuttlers eventually gutted out the win in three sets (21-8, 13-21, and 21-16).

This win puts the Lady Eagles at 3-1 in the elimination round standings of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78.

Their next game will be against University of Santo Tomas, 2:30 PM, Saturday, October 3 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
