THE ATENEO Lady Booters conceded a loss to defending champion, Far Eastern Univeristy (FEU) Lady Tamaraws, 1-2, on Wednesday, January 21,2015, at the Moro Lorenzo Field in Ateneo, Katipunan.

In the 29th minute, a hard foul on Ateneo’s Nona Amoncio caused the Tamaraws to concede a free kick from right side of goal, but not in range for a direct attempt at goal. It was Cadayona who stepped up to take the deadball. The play was initially set up to look like a in-swinging cross for the Ateneo players waiting in the box. Instead, the ball sailed goal-bound and over the FEU keeper to give the Lady Booters a 1-0 lead.

FEU retaliated and scored in the 36th minute with a long-range free kick of their own. Impressive centerback, Alesa Dolino rocketed a shot into the top corner of the goal, beating Ateneo keeper, Mariane Caparros, tying the game up at 1-1.

The match was an intense and physical contest, as a confetti of six yellow cards were shown, with five against FEU and one against Ateneo. Only Lady Booter Cam Rodriguez was booked in the 87th minute for holding an opposing player.

In the second half, a threatening lofted ball forwarded by the FEU midfield produced an error out of the Ateneo defense. Goalscorer, Cadayona mistimed her defensive header, which allowed FEU striker Araneta to roll the ball in as Caparros came off her line. The 52nd minute goal gave FEU the lead, 2-1.

Another goal scoring chance for FEU came only two minutes later as a swift counterattack resulted in a FEU player rounding Caparros and firing a shot on target. This forced a heroic goal line save from Kimbo Jimenez.

A tense moment came in the 59th minute as Caparros was stretchered off after colliding with FEU’s Araneta in the Ateneo box. She was replaced by substitute keeper Katherine Montelibano.

Four other substitutions were made by the Lady Booters. Patricia Punsalan was subbed off for Annika Ong on the 30th minute, who then made way for Maria Cruz in the 56th minute. Ramona Sucgang came on for Alessandra Abraham in the 68th minute and Noelle Antonio for Amoncio in the 79th minute.

Ateneo’s best chance to equalize came in the 66th minute as Rodriguez was able to make contact with Cadayon’s free kick from the left side of the field. Unfortunately, her header went just wide of the goalpost.

Despite committing more players forward, and looking more threatening in the final minutes of the game, the Lady Booters failed to produce a chance on goal, ending up the 1-2.

This result brings the Lady Booters at fourth place tied with the University of Santo Tomas.
