Blue Spikers earn their 2nd win with 3-set sweep against UP

THE ATENEO Blue Spikers are back in the winning mark as they garner their second win in the preliminary eliminations against the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in three sets, 25-17, 25-18 and 25- 23, on Saturday, December 6, at the Fil Oil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

This victorious game puts the Blue Spikers at 2-2 in the elimination round standings.

The Blue Spikers had a 17-point difference in attacks against UP. They also tallied four outstanding blocks and six winning serves in the game.

Leading scorer of the team, Marck Espejo, topped the game in scoring with 17 points followed up by Josh Villanueva with 12. Team Captain Ysay Marasigan scored 10 while veteran Rex Intal marked seven. Ish Polvorosa distributed the ball with 31 excellent sets while Tomie Rivera notched eight digs.

“After our painful loss against UST, we really prepared for this game against UP to test if we really recovered or not,” said Head Coach Oliver Almadro in a mix of English and Filipino. “We were able to recover, but we still have yet to polish our end games.”

Their next game will be against the De La Salle University Green Archers, 10 AM, Wednesday, December 10, at the Fil Oil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
