Fresh from a victorious five game sweep of round one of UAAP Baseball Season 74, the Ateneo Blue Batters are taking no chances that may tarnish their perfect win-loss record. Ateneo remains number one in the ranks, with an astonishing 6-0 win-loss card.

Sticking to their original game plan of winning every inning, the Katipunan-based team dominated all five innings of their first game of round two on January 29. Ateneo was able to score 10 points, while neighboring UP scored nil.  Once again, the mercy rule favored the blue and white—the second time Ateneo has defeated UP this season via this rule.

Ateneo earned a three-point lead in the 1st inning care of Charles Catangui, Kevin Ramos and Matt Laurel. This was followed up in the 2nd inning by batters Matt Reyes and Catangui.

In the 3rd inning, cager Kirk Long was able to hit to center, giving senior Gab Bagamasmad a run from second.  This marked the beginning of a short rally in the bottom of 3rd, wherein batters Adriane Bernardo and Long would contribute two more runs for the team.

Slugger Laurel led the blue and white jerseys in the bottom of the 4th, hitting a single line drive to the center field. Laurel would later run home alongside batchmate Pelos Remollo.

The short but sweet game for Team Ateneo ended with a complete player substitution in the 5th inning, save for pitcher Andy Tan and catcher rookie Dio Remollo.

Ateneo battles current 3rd placer Adamson University on Thursday, February 2 at 7:30 AM at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field.
