The Ateneo Lady Eagles opened their season 73 campaign with a resounding victory over the UE Amazons, 74-59, on July 11th at the Areneta Coliseum.  Keyed in by a team effort, Ateneo took an early lead that they would never relinquish, winning in wire-to-wire fashion.

The Katipunan side used solid defense to hold their opponents to 33% shooting—without conceding a single three pointer in the entire forty minutes of play.  The Lady Eagles pulled away at the beginning of the second half, unleashing a full court press that the Amazons had difficulty breaking. This resulted in 45 turnovers for UE, with two players, starting point guard Nerissa Cabrera and star forward Cindy Resultay combining for twenty three.

Resultay turned in a dominant performance playing thirty seven minutes, scoring twenty-seven while grabbing nineteen rebounds, but received little help on the offensive end with only one other player scoring in double digits.

Ball-movement was key to Ateneo’s offense in the half court, enjoying an 18-6 assist advantage in assists with five players scoring at least eight points.  Valerie Chua was quiet throughout the game but played a very efficient game with 13 points and six boards before fouling out with a minute and a half left in the fourth.

The Lady Eagles next play on July 18th at 9:45 am at the PhilSports Arena against Season 72 runners up Far Eastern University.

Box Score:

ADMU: Lopa 17, Chua 13, Dogong 9, Tiu 8, Mercado 8, Ong 6, Javier, 4, Limacaoco, 3, Dimaano 3, Bo-ot 2
UE: Resultay 27, Ventura 11, Junsay 7, Cabrera 5, Tan, 4, Vergara 2, Silvestre 2, Florade 1
