THE ATENEO Resident Students Association (ARSA) Central Board has released a resolution calling for immediate action against an article published in the Young Star section of The Philippine Star on June 18.

Entitled “Campus Cribs”, the article tells about the ups and downs of staying in a dormitory. One of the writers, Karen Bolilia, is a Communications junior in the Ateneo. [Ed’s Note: Bolilia is the Features Editor of The GUIDON.]

The resolution stated that the four Ateneo interviewees who are ARSA members have taken offense with how they were misquoted in the article.

It also stated that the introduction on the second part of the article was a “false overgeneralization”, and that there was a “gross misrepresentation of the entire population of the Ateneo University Residence Halls.”

With this in consideration, the ARSA Central Board calls for the following:

1. Demands for the immediate public apology of the author of the said article;

2.Further demands for the immediate retraction of the said article by the Philippine Star;

3. Petitions the Philippine Star editorial board for an inquiry into the Young Star section of the newspaper;

4. Requests for responsible administrative action via giving ARSA a space for an article in The Philippine Star for damage control;

5. Calls for the support of the ARSA community and AFORS members (Ateneo Association of Former Resident Students); and

6. Further calls for the support of the Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de Manila.

The Central Board is also drafting a more detailed statement from ARSA as of press time.

Meanwhile, the resolution is also posted in the University Residence Lobby, along with a signature campaign. The ARSA Central Board is planning on sending the resolution, along with the signature campaign, to The Philippine Star for immediate action.
