The youth will play a crucial role in resolving issues, especially the upcoming 2010 elections, he said. “We cannot allow the powerful to corrupt the law.”
Tingson added that he will further build upon the excellence, maturity, transparency, and accountability that the outgoing Sanggu had laid down.
He said this as he and the rest of the newly-elected officers of the Sanggu were inducted in a ceremony on February 27 along the University Road.
Student Judicial Court (SJC) Chief Magistrate Dennis Agustin Balictar Jr. (IV BS MIS) officiated the oath-taking of the new officers.
Leap of faith
Outgoing Sanggu officers also graduated in the same ceremony. Omi Castañar (V AB DS), in his speech as the outgoing president, said that his initial decision to run in the Sanggu was a risky move and a leap of faith.
“It was a risk because being in Sanggunian entailed being able to adapt to the demands of the situations that present themselves,” said Castañar.
Castañar said that nothing could have prepared him for the experience of serving the students.
“If there’s one thing that kept me going, to be a good leader to my fellow students, it would have to be knowing that I have chosen the difficult path,” said.
Castañar thus advised Tingson to “learn to go back to the reasons why he chose to run for Sanggunian.”

Incoming Sanggu Vice President Jauro Castro (III AB PoS) said that among his immediate plans are the following.
• Make the office of the top officers open to students
• Oversee the planning and formation processes of the top officers and school boards
• Form a constitutional committee to aid in consulting for a possible revision of the current Sanggunian Constitution
Castro also said the SJC needs to be consulted regarding the absence of officers in the School of Humanities.
He suggested building volunteer team, composing of students from SOH, who would “serve to bridge the student government and the students.”
