Atenean Voice: How ready are you to bring your own baunan (BYOB) to school?

“For me, being ready is not the question. We are all capable to participate in the BYOB policy; rather, we are to choose whether we want to exert the extra effort to contribute to the project’s purpose or not. I am willing to use the containers available in the cafeteria simply because it serves the same purpose without requiring me to bring my own container.”

– Ralph Jonathan Samson (IV BS Mgt)

“Hassle eh…We’ve got our books, tapos baka mag-amoy pa…it will also control what we buy…mawawalan ng variety.”

– Franz Darren Tantoco (I BS CTM)

“The policy itself is reasonable and I’m willing enough to stick by it, but I think a lot of students will be put off by the fact that they will have to wash their own baunans after using them for lunch. Also, why buy food in the caf (with a baunan) if you can just bring your own baon, since you’re bringing the extra baggage already?”

– Kara Frances Mauricio (IV BS CS)

“Pretty ready, I suppose. My high school had a waste management program in place, so the BYOB policy just seems to be an extension of that. It’s just also a really logical and practical move.”

– Anna Katrina Chua (III BS HSc)

“Kasi hindi malinaw sa akin kung saan pwedeng hugasan yung pinagkainan. Tapos paano naman ‘yon kung sakaling hindi mo naman naplano na kakain ka pala sa caf, as in wala na talagang iproprovide na pwedeng kainan? Siguro hindi kasi nalilinaw yung mga rules. I think maganda naman yung project, kailangan lang na pag-isipan pa at repasuhin ang mga plano para maipatupad ng maayos.”

– Janessa Louise Roque (II AB Lit Fil)

“I’m not really ready for it because I tend to be too caught up with academics and my orgs that I tend to forget about “trivial things” like bringing my own baunan.”

– Anna Teresita Marcelo (II BS Psy)

“Well I don’t have a baunan and utensils yet but I welcome the policy. This little sacrifice will hopefully go a long way.”

– Miguel Antonio Lizada, English lecturer

“Ready na ako. Madali lang naman magdala ng sariling baunan. Kung nagawa na natin ito nung bata pa tayo, why not now?”

– Julio Ingco III (II BS Mgt)

“I think the policy is pointless. The Philippines is sharing not even a tenth of the global GHG [greenhouse gases] emissions with other countries eh. Do you think one university’s consumption in the Philippines can even change .00001 percent of the world’s GHG emissions? Making us comply with the policy only makes things more inconvenient especially with our grab and go style sa ADMU where you sometimes can’t eat between classes.”

– Dan Abraham Guinigundo (III AB Eco)

“Well, I personally am ready to bring my own utensils. If it’s to save on cost and waste, I’d do it.”

– Michael Angelo Villarica (II BFA ID)
